雨 "(Yǔ)" Mini Typography Project
雨 (Yǔ) a.k.a rain, is a typographic project meant to pay homage to the experimental design style of Dutch designer, Karel Martens' book; Re-printed Matter. Through the use of repetitive forms, I was able to create a unique letter that mimicked its predecessor whilst staying true to its character. Additionally, by adding in animations, I was able to breathe life into the static conception.
As a result of this, the character is able to better embody its meaning and truly showcase what it represents, thus allowing others who are unfamiliar with the language to also understand what it stands for at a glance. Furthermore in order to get the intended effect, I had 2 different code ideas into one sketch that allows the you to toggle when the canvas is pressed. Have a try when you can!
A list of sketches
- 雨水 (Yǔshuǐ) Another version of the mini project that involves offsets and theta
- あ (a) A sound responsive sketch that demonstrates how sound makes type move
- 演唱会 (Yănchànghuì) A sketch exploration involving visualization of of the meaning in text form
