MORPH COFFEEHOUSE

MORPH is a culmination of the references shown above. I wanted to design a poster that is influenced by Swiss design, in terms of colours as well as style, which are greatly influenced by Bauhaus design. However, it has its own distinct style such as using organic geometric forms and also despite being dependent on grids they break out of these grids from time to time. The colours in the posters are pretty bright but always sticks to the primary colour palette. As for the fonts, the 2 fonts are by Karl Nawrot and Radim Pesko respectively. I really like how organic it looks and yet has some form of structure within itself. These would be applicable in replacing the organic forms with these organic fonts to create a poster of my own. Lastly, the images of Studio Dumbar's Cumulus Park designs, are how I would like to portray the forms on my poster, being able to shift from one form to another. Additionally, I also quite like the way their posters are laid out, so I'm intending to do an adaptation of them.

MOPRH: Morphing from circular blobs to letters

Above are the letters of MORPH created using the hexadecagon blob shown at the top of the page. I created the hexadecagon blob, which has 16 points, by doing a little bit of math. Calculating the x and y position of each point using the interior angles of each pie section of a 16 sided polygon. Creating the blob was tedious without loops and arrays but it was the only way that I could comprehend and knew how to do. I'm really pleased with the outcome of it because it creates a flowy natural looking blob where I'm able to shift each vertex to create the letters.

After creating MORPH, I decided to venture into creating the whole alphabet. It was a rather therapeutic process and below is the final artefact.

Upon finalising the artefact, I created some touchpoints whereby I think would be great to utilize MORPH. These are mostly for digital works, referencing the projection mapping images above, but I think it would be applicable for static pieces as well. I thought of MORPH as a coffeehouse concept. So for the word COFFEEHOUSE, I used the alphabets created and saved them in SVG and put them together. I think aside from creating a generative interactive poster, the shapes created could be used to create an actual font after some refinement to the typeface and of course the code itself. I saved 2 different blobs so that I could use them for the Os in the word instead of using an O, this way it ties into the actual morphing alphabets. Below are the images of the touchpoints.

Here are 2 poster size interactive sketches that could be adapted for a physical camera interaction.
